Step 1 - Find the entry in the solving sequence

The first step is on the face of the rosette, examine it carefully.

Each of the rosettes seems to be useful for something, so why not try them one by one?

Maybe the one at the top right is more useful at the moment.

Slide the top right rosette to the top right corner, then rotate the outer part of the large rosette clockwise to reveal a drawer.

Step 2 - Find the Black King

The White Tower gives you a calculation to solve, but what could it possibly mean?

Did you notice the symbol on the other side of the message?

Continue exploring the Chess Castle, have you examined the upper part?

The roofs of the turrets unscrew and reveal a shape that seems familiar...

Maybe the Gatekeeper will be useful to you?

Use the crenellation of the white tower as a key in each of the turrets, taking care to note what you discover.

Each of the turrets reveals a number, except one which reveals additional information. You now have all the information to solve the riddle of the white tower.

The symbol on the other side of the message is a compass rose, used to represent the cardinal points. How could this relate to the equation?

The "N" represents North, and it is then possible to deduce the numbers corresponding to the other cardinal points and use them to solve the calculation.

This gives you a three-digit code, but where can it be used?

Enter the 3-digit code on the face of the prison (the 3 wheels), then turn the skull counterclockwise to open the gate, if you dare...

Step 3 - Find the White King

The inside of the cell is strange... On the right is a push button, but it doesn't seem to trigger anything.

On the left, you can see an arrow at the bottom of the wall. How do you use it?

Slide the wall towards the back of the cell to reveal a coded message, take note.

Once the wall is moved, you will notice that one element of the Chess Castle has become movable, which one? Take the time to double-check everything.

On the face of the bridge, one of the three shields has become mobile, but how does this new mechanism work?

If you hold the moving shield down, the upper shield can rotate, but this doesn't seem to trigger anything... you have to complete it with one last move.

Rotate the top shield 90° to the right, then slide it to the right to finally reveal the throne room.

Step 4 - Find the Battlefield Key

The White King gives you a lot of information, know that everything has a meaning: if you get stuck in the future steps, it will certainly be useful for you to reread this message several times.

There's something strange about this throne, don't you think?

Push the throne to the back of the room, this reveals a new message. Make a note of it for later.

Moving the throne unlocked a mechanism elsewhere... but which one? Think about what you've already found in the past but haven't been useful yet, take the time to re-examine the entire Chess Castle.

In the Black King's cell, the button is probably useful now, but when you press it, nothing happens... maybe you need to combine the button with another element?

Hold the button pushed with your left hand, and with your right hand rotate the lower left rosette on the face of the rosette, this will reveal a secret drawer, hidden behind the stones of the prison wall.

Here is the key to the battlefield!

Step 5 - Find the Battlefield

On the face of the door, look carefully at the two ornaments on either side, they seem strange...

If you look under the box, you can see a seam under each of the ornaments...

By placing the Chess Castle on the edge of a table or lifting it, you can release the two plates on either side of the door by sliding them downwards.

One of them reveals a new coded message, make a note of it for later, and the other reveals a shape that is already familiar to you.

Use the white tower as a key, then turn it counterclockwise, what happens?

The window on the bridge face opens to reveal a large lock, insert the Battlefield Key and turn it clockwise.

Step 6 - Open the Battlefield Key

To open the key to the battlefield, you will need the 9 coded messages hidden in the Chess Castle.

They all have the same shape:

X . _ _ . _ _ . _

Here are their positions:

  • Cavity housing the drawer of the White Tower
  • Behind the wall of the Black King's cell
  • Behind the Black King's Message
  • Behind the plate to the left of the door
  • Under the large roof plate
  • Under the cryptex of the roof
  • Under the throne of the White King
  • In the key drawer
  • On the hidden plaque in the bridge (a small slot in the edge of the bridge contains the plaque)

You will notice that all these codes have the same structure.

First a Roman numeral, from I to III, then pairs (number and Greek letter or Latin letter and Greek letter, then a single letter).

The different codes have gaps, start by recomposing them by assembling the messages having the same Roman numeral.

Use the wheels on the roof plate to decipher these messages, each of the 3 codes you reconstruct allows you to discover a number.

To discover the number for each code, start by aligning the wheels so as to reconstruct the pairs present in the code.

Once the wheels are "adjusted", read the number opposite the single letter at the end of the code.

The 3-digit code thus found allows you to open the key to the battlefield.

Step 7 - Find the Black Tower

Once the key is opened, you get a smaller key.

The keyhole is hidden under a stone on the face of the rose, as the Black King told you.

Slide the stone at 3 o'clock to the left to reveal a small keyhole.

Push the small key in until the door opens. (There is no need to turn the key.)

Step 8 - Find the White Bishop

The King told you that the Fool will not show himself if the cross is hidden, what could that mean?

Did you notice the push button in the lower right rosette?

If you press the button, and look inside the door, you will notice that a small white cross appears.

The White King also informed you that the Keeper of Keys might still be of use to you in your search for the Fool.

While holding the button down (and thus keeping the cross visible), re-use the white tower in the same way you did to reveal the large lock, but this time, turn clockwise. You will then slide the wall separating you from the White Bishop.

Step 9 - Find the white knight

The White Fool gives you a calculation that seems a little too simple...

You did the math of course and that gives you 49... which doesn't correspond to anything.

So the numbers must correspond to something else, but to what? Did you notice that the numbers in the calculation are 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5? This cannot be a coincidence.

Did you also notice that each message you found has a number? You actually found 5 messages, one for each room...

To solve this riddle, you must have found the position of each of the pieces on the chessboard, here is how to find these different positions:

White Rook : The position of the white tower is hidden under the cryptex located on the roof of the Chess Castle, this information was accessible at any time during the game. Slide the chest sideways 2 times to reveal the position of the white tower.

  • The Black King : The position is indicated directly in the message, the Black King tells you that he awaits his revenge there.

  • The White King : This is the most complex position to find. The White King tells you in his message that his position is hidden to avoid being found. It is revealed "at night in the light of the Rose". Did you notice the white rose on the back of the door?

Take a closer look at the door, it is removable. You will notice that the part with the Rose on it can be removed by sliding it upwards. Behind it you will find a mirror.

Have you also searched the chessboard well?

One of the squares on the chessboard triggers a blue light on the face of the rosette?

Night must now fall to reveal the position of the White King...

Turn off all the lights and put yourself in almost complete darkness. Press the square of the chessboard while using the mirror to reflect the light towards the rosette, you will then see symbols appear forming a position composed of a letter and a number. This is the position of the White King.

  • The Black Tower : Her message tells you that she has information but is keeping it secret... So what to do?

Reread the White King's message, it may give you a clue on what to do next.

Her Majesty has told you that the light of the rose has the power to reveal what is kept secret...

Press the square on the chessboard to turn on the blue light and pass the black tower under the light, what do you see?

  • The White Fool : Do you remember the plaque under the White King's throne? It may not have revealed all its secrets...

The plate can slide to the left and reveal the position of the white bishop.

Now you have the 5 positions, how do you use them to solve the White Bishop calculation?

5 numbered messages, one for each piece, each piece having a position, including a number.

Replace the number of each message with the number of the position of the corresponding piece. (Example: message 2 is that of the Black King, who is waiting on a4. So the 2 becomes a 4).

Once the calculation is done, you get a number, not so far from 49... But what to do?

The Roman numerals will come in handy, use them to open the cryptex on the roof plate.

Still stuck? Don't lose your Latin:

I = 1

V = 5

X = 10

L = 50

C = 100

D = 500

M = 1000

Step 10 - Solve the game

You have finally found the white knight!

He tells you that there is only one possibility to win... how to interpret this information?

If you are a chess player, this is easier for you... It is indeed a "mate in 1". (This means that a single move allows checkmate).

But how do you position the pieces on the chessboard without a reference point? Look closely at the chessboard... doesn't something seem strange to you?

One of the squares differs slightly from the others.

Did you see the square with the gray fleur-de-lis? What could that mean?

Remember the turret roofs you unscrewed at the beginning of your adventure? One of them might contain something...

You discover that the fleur-de-lis corresponds to d3, this should allow you to deduce the position of the chessboard and the name of all the other squares.

If you are not familiar with the chessboard marker made up of letters and numbers, it starts at the bottom right of the chessboard with square a1. The numbers increase upwards and the letters increase to the right. You are welcome to consult the internet if this is still not obvious to you. Don't worry, you don't need to know how to play chess to complete your adventure... but it's a plus!

Place the pieces on the chessboard respecting the positions of each one, it is time for white to play the move which will make checkmate.

Do you remember the message from the knight? He told you that you will be able to "hear"... Maybe you have to listen carefully to be sure of the movement...

.

.

.

.

Move the knight to a3, you will then hear a "click". This tells you that it was the right move.

The white knight told you that when you have achieved victory, a reward awaits you in the rose. But how do you find it?

Rotate the outer ring of the wheel counterclockwise until the central compartment opens.

Congratulations, you have reached the end of your adventure!
